Holland is a favourite place for sailors to go. It especially
enjoyed by the Germans, because it's not too far away for the neighbouring
country. From our area in Central Germany, it's only a five hour
drive, and the JIsselmeer is great place for a week-long or weekend
sailing trip. The JIsselmeer is the biggest laguna in Northern Europe,
and is a smaller version of the Zuidersee. It's considered a good
area for beginners, because it's not too far between harbours.
For people who aren't really sure if sailing is their "thing",
this is the best place to try it out - on a laguna that doesn't get
gigantic waves. Besides this the scenary is beautiful in Holland.
Windmills on the JIsselmeer
At the moment, no trip is specifically scheduled, because
members of our club weren't sure exactly when they wanted to go sailing.
That's
not a problem though, since we can charter a ship as soon as we get a
boatfull of people together. The JIsselmeer is full of charter
sailboat companies. Have you got a couple of friends to go sailing?
Then drop us a note, and we'll organise a trip.
Harbour city of Hoorn
As soon as we get together 3-6 people, we
can go sailing in Holland. Weekend trips start on Friday afternoons.
We sleep on board overnight, and sail off to another town the next
day. And back to the base on Sunday afternoon. We should point
out, though, that week-long trips are hardly more expense than weekend
trips. Example: a weekend trip costs around 100 € per person
and around 150 € per person for a whole week and the off-season!
Crew instruction in Lelystad
The JIsselmeer is optimal for a try-out trip,
skipper training, or a chance to finally have a try steering a big
sailboat all by yourself, while discovering the beauty of Holland.
We can either cook on board, or eat out in the local restaurants.
Our trip plan is up to you. Where should we go? Amsterdam, Lemmer, Enkhuisen, Hoorn, Rotterdam,
or should we brave the ferrocious tides of the North Sea and venture out
to one of the Friesian islands?
