Absolutely wonderful! This is the only adequate description for
Turkey. A beautiful country, with friendly people, picturesque bays
and a touch of the exotic orient. This place is becoming ever
popular for sailing enthusists, and many are defecting from Greece and
coming here. It's because the harbours are new and clean. The bays
are warm enought to swim in, and the local food is absolutely delicious.
This year, we have planned our trip just before the main season,
because it's not too hot, there's still enough wind to sail, and the storm
season is over. Turkey is less expensive than Greece - only 335 €
per week per person!
Our ship is a Bavaria 44 (commissioned in 2003), sails under
the Dutch Flag, and is called "Shala".
What's nice about this
boat, is that it is probably the widest Bavaria that was ever built.
That means more room in the cabins. It's equipped with 4 cabins (3
with double beds, 1 with bunk beds), 2 heads, 3 showers and a completely
equipped galley.
In addition to the standard safety and boating equipment, the ship also
has a computer chart plotter, Navtex, autopilot, a double steering wheel,
a wind instrument station, VHF radio, a built-in stereo with a CD player
and outdoor speakers, a Bimini top and cockpit lighting.
