Marmaris

Saturday -Arrival
Marmaris gives you the opportunity to get to know Turkey from it's best side. A lovely, clean harbour, with lots of interesting restaurants, bars and cafés.  A large selection of shopping opportunities - carpets, jewelry, leather and clothes.  Near our ship, they have nice harbour facilities, such as a clean, modern shower facility, a swimming pool and even a fitness and bowling center.  At night you can go out for entertainment and dancing in the Bar Street.  Bars with Efes Beer on tap, disco, local live music and dancing are just some of the things you can experience in Marmaris' night life.

Ekincik

Sunday
Ekincik Bay is really beautiful. A wonderful big bay, surrounded by a pine forest. It's also known as the Green Sea Turtle Bay, because it's near the sea turtle raising station, Daylan.  Because the turtles are curious, they often swim right us to the boat.  The water is so clean, that it practically invites you for a swim.  During the day, small boats will come by to ask if you want to take a day excursion to the mud baths and visit the sea turtle breeding station.

Cleopatra Bay

Monday
Hidden in the furthest corner of the Fethiye Golf lies Kotin Bay - also know as Cleopatra Bay, because the ruins pictured here are the ruins of her bath house.  Today, most of it is underwater, where you can snorkel to see octopi.  Because it's in the middle of a national park, there are no buildings around anywhere - just a homemade dock, and on this dock, they have the local restaurant, which can offer you a choice of four home-cooked menues.  In the evening they even will play Turkish volk music for you.

Fethiye

Tuesday
Fethiye lies in the northeast of the Fethiye Golf and is a favourite holiday resort for the Dutch, as well as the British.  It's a city the size of Marmaris, and is built, very picturesque, on a hill.  You can't miss the impressive amphitheater they have excavated in the middle of town.  Nearby, you can see numerous Lycian mausoleums. The city has lots of shopping opportunities, and it even has a small bazaar. Famous is the traditional Hamam (Turkish Bath) right in the middle of town.

Kalkan

Wednesday
Once this was an important border commerce town, when this place used to belong to Greece. After it was given to Turkey, the town turned into a sleepy fishing village, until the British sailing awakened it back to life in the 60's.  Kalkan owes it's typical Turkish character thanks to the British, because liked this ideal of a small Turkish village.  Kalkan is famous for 3 things:  it's near the ancient city of Xanthippes, they sell quality wares in the shops, and the town has quite a few very fine Turkish Restaurants.

Thursday
Kekova is one of the places everybody who takes a sailing trip dreams about later. Just a little east of the town of Kas, this little village lies in a secluded kidney-shaped bay. Famous is Hasan's Fish Restaurant. He claims to have the best fish restaurant in all of Turkey. On the penisula lie the ruins of an Ottoman fortress.  Once you climb to the top, you can gaze down upon the ruins of the sunken Lycian city in the clear turquoise waters below.

Kas

Tuesday
On the most southern tip of Turkey is exactly where this resort village is.  Stunning are the Lycian mausoleums that are directly in the harbour.  In this village, we always go pay a visit to Smiley's Restaurant, because of his excellent fish dishes, his choice of wines, and the interesting wine cellar that is over 2000 years old. On the penisula you can see a small amphitheater.

Gilmiler Insel

Wednesday
Not far from
Ölüdeniz - that place where the water is so blue, that they film commercials for Turkish holiday - lies the hidden island of Gimiler.  Long ago this wasn't an island, but a penisula.  An earthquake destroyed the Byzantine town of Gilmadiz. You can still view the ruins today.

Ciftilik

Friday
Ciftilik Bay is just a few sea miles southwest of Marmaris.  It's a wonderful bay with clear waters, sandy beaches and dramatic mountains. Odysseus would have felt right at home here. Today Mehmet lives here, and greets every yacht crew that comes here. His family prepares delicious meals in their garden taverne.
